INGREDIENTS
Chana dal / bengal gram - 250 gms
Grated onion - 1
Chopped coriander leaves - 2 tbsp
Grated dry coconut - 2 tbsp
Chopped green chilly - 1/2 tsp
Garam masala powder - 1/2 tsp
Black mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Cumin seeds / jeera seeds - 1 tsp
Asafoetida / hing - a pinch
Curry leaves - 8 - 10
Salt - to taste
Oil - for frying
METHOD
Wash and soak chana dal for 4 - 5 hours.
Add 1 - 2 tbsp water and grind coarsely.
Take a bowl add chana dal paste,onion,coconut,green chilly,garam masala powder,salt and coriander leaves and mix well.
Take one tsp oil in a pan.
Add black mustard seeds,cumin seeds and asafoetida to crackle.
Add curry leaves and switch off the gas and mix in the chana dal paste.
Shape each ball to vada.
Dip fry in hot oil and drain in paper napkin.
