Toor dal/lentil  -  1 cup
Chopped spinach / palak  -  1 cup
Green chilly -  1
Chopped ginger  - 1 inch stick
Cumin seeds  -  1/4 tsp
Asafoetida / hing - a pinch
Turmeric powder  -  1/4 tsp
Chopped onion  - 2 tbsp
Salt  -  to taste
Clarified butter - 2 tbsp

Clean and wash the spinach and also wash the toor dal.
Pressure cook toor dal and spinach with 2 cup of water.
Add salt and turmeric powder.
After one whistle simmer the gas for ten mins.
Turn off the flame till the dal become soft.
Heat clarified butter in a pan.
Add cumin seeds and asafoetida to crackle.
Add onion and ginger and fry till dark brown.
Add whole green chilly and mix well.
Add spinach and toor dal mixture and boil for 4 - 5 mins.
Serve hot.
